"....These pictures cover a period of my work which spans over 10 years. On my first visit to Ardnamurchan in 1991 and in particular to the glorious beaches of Sanna Bay I was amazed by the clarity and intensity of the colours, and this was the catalyst which immediately diverted me from painting with tonal colours and primarily water colour to oil paints and the vibrant clean colours that I use now. So, I have always been inspired by Scotland's west coast since that day and it has felt very natural for me to devote so much of my time trying to capture it's many moods. Latterly, though, I have also begun to feature the East coast particularly as it contrasts so strongly to the grand scenes of the West....At first I didn't feel the same immediate reaction to these subjects, but my 'eye' has developed over the years and I now instinctively see a little 'deeper' and have discovered a strong emotional response to these hidden gems.
All the paintings here have been created using oil on canvas as I feel this better represents the striking colours and raw energy so prevalent in the natural scenes around us here in Scotland, particularly those of the North West Coastline ..
